The History of Zamzam Well

The Zamzam well has existed since the time of Prophet Ishmael. After his passing, the Zamzam well was buried and covered by soil. Then came the era of Abdul Muttalib (the grandfather of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ). One day, he dreamed of someone approaching him while he was sleeping next to the Kaaba, near the Black Stone. He was commanded to dig the Zamzam well. At that time, the Quraysh people knew about the story of the well that had existed since the time of Prophet Ishmael, but they did not know its location. After waking up from his dream,

Abdul Muttalib announced his dream to the Quraysh. They asked, "Did he tell you where it is located?" Abdul Muttalib replied, "No." They said, "Then return to your sleeping place. If this is truly from Allah, He will surely let you know where it is. But if it is from Satan, he will not return to you." So, Abdul Muttalib returned to the place where he had slept. He dreamed of the exact same thing again, so he asked where it was located. He was told that the location was at an ants' nest, where a crow would peck at the ground the next day. The following day, Abdul Muttalib inspected the location with his only son, Harith. He found a crow pecking between two idols, Isaf and Na'ilah. In the past, the Quraysh frequently slaughtered animals as offerings at that site. Abdul Muttalib began to dig. Not long after, the wall of the old Zamzam well appeared, and he shouted the Takbeer. Thus, the Quraysh people finally recognized the truth of his dream.
