Setelah 10 tahun lamanya Nabi berdakwah kepada orang-orang Quraisy, tapi perkembangan yang dirasakan begitu lambat, bahkan penentangan dan juga penyiksaan serta gangguan yang dialaminya semakin berat setelah wafatnya pamannya Abu Thalib yang selama ini menjadi pelindung, beliau pun mulai mengarahkan tujuannya kepada orang-orang di luar Makah.
